Very proud to have obtained a Dyson V8 Absolute in super promotion during Black Friday 2018 thanks to the precious advice of the Digital, I had decided to abandon my aging V6 and my canister vacuum cleaner and make my new acquisition the main vacuum cleaner of the household. Well supported by a robot vacuum cleaner, which provides cleaning five days a week, the Dyson V8 has been cleaning a 70 m² floor every week for five years, not to mention the daily passage under the living room table after dinner.

The Dyson V8 used is used almost only on hard ground.

working for Digital and confronted every day with the multitude of new products that abound in the various test labs, the desire to trade my V8 for a newer and better equipped stick vacuum cleaner tickled me. But before incurring costs and sitting on my ecological conscience, the idea came to me to go back to the V8 in the lab to reassess its efficiency five years later.

Suction: an almost imperceptible slack

The Dyson V8 Absolute is therefore ironed on all floor coverings that we use for the stick vacuums procedure. After its passage on hard ground, fine and thick carpets, it must be recognized that the Dyson V8 is a little less in shape after five years. If it does not provide the same performance as before, it continues to do well on hard ground and fine carpet (normal mode) where it collected 89% of the waste in 30 s vs all when it had been tested new.

It sucks efficiently between the grooves of the parquet.

It sucks efficiently between the grooves of the parquet.

On these two coatings, the boost mode does better since in both cases, the V8 (in normal mode) recovers 96% of the materials after 30 s and all of it after 1 min of suction (when it picked up at the time the entire waste in 30 s). It is on thick carpet that the Dyson V8 does the least well, since even after 2 minutes of suction, all the waste has not been recovered either in normal mode (91% of waste absorbed) or boost (9%).

Clearly, if the suction performance is worse than five years ago, it remains very correct compared to all the models in our comparison.

Autonomy: nothing moves

Always connected to its mains, the Dyson V8 is always ready to use and at hand in the kitchen. The lithium-ion battery that equips the stick vacuum cleaner has not moved one iota and allows it to provide a cleaning session for 25 minutes at normal power and 9 minutes at maximum power. Five years later, the battery has lost none of its capacity.

The V8 is continuously powered and always ready to go.

Always good value for money

If we had to test the Dyson V8 Absolute today and under these conditions, the stick vacuum cleaner would have won the honorable rating of 3 stars. Seven years after its launch, and accessible around €400, it enjoys good value for money, especially alongside the Kärcher VC 6 and Dreame T20 Mistral. Still, if you have the opportunity to wait for promotion periods, especially Black Friday, you could get the V8 in its Absolute version under the 300 € mark.
