ë-C4 X: Citroën introduces a new mid-SUV mid-Sedan vehicle in its electric range

Citroën announces a new model, in 2 versions. Despite a similar name, C4 and C4 X, their silhouettes and positioning are quite different. The reinforcement of a new model with 100% electric motorization is in any case welcome to complete the range.

Citroën announces on June 29, 2022 to add a brand new model to its collection of vehicles. This novelty is named C4 X for its thermal version and ë-C4 X for its 100% electric version.

Citroën continues to bet on mixing genres with its new ë-C4 X. Between the silhouette of a Fastback sedan and that of an SUV, this new model intends to carve out an important place in the brand’s sales. It will still be necessary to be careful not to confuse it with the ë-C4, which also plays on the ambiguity of the style.

The comfort of a limousine in 4.60 meters long

This new ë-C4 X is positioned between the electric ë-C4 of 4.36 m and the C5 X of 4.80 m, a model which has relied on hybrid and gasoline only. It is 4.60 m long, but offers significant interior space for passengers traveling in the back. It also relies on a 510 L trunk to appeal to families and professional drivers.

Citroën is looking to offer passengers its new ë-C4 X “ an unparalleled feeling of serenity, comfort and space thanks to Citroën’s Advanced Comfort experience”if we are to believe the brand’s press release.

Comfort is the main argument exploited by the French manufacturer, which masters this know-how. It must be said that faced with many electric modelswith fairly firm comfort, all brands combined, Citroën offers a truly comfortable vehicle. Even if this comfort is at the expense of dynamic handling.

An ë-C4 X that follows the trend?

It is difficult to say whether the brand is undergoing or following the trend. In any case, it will find itself in direct competition with the Peugeot 408, which will arrive a little later with an all-electric engine.

It must be said that the design of this novelty raises some questions about its proportions and lines. At first glance, it is difficult to position the model in a category. We are not certain that it will win as clear a vote as its direct competitor, the 408, but its advantages are elsewhere.

In addition to the comfort argument, the new ë-C4 X will also benefit from the technologies already deployed on the upper model (C5 X) for infotainment and driving aids.

Nothing new under the hood

Unsurprisingly, the Citroën ë-C4 X is equipped with the 100 kW electric motor, combined with the 50 kWh battery. This motor-battery combination has been fitted to all 100% electric models from Citroën, Peugeot and DS since the launch of the Peugeot e-208 in 2019.

Only the autonomy varies from one model to another, depending on the aerodynamics of the design. The Citroën ë-C4 X communicates on a range of 360 km wltp.

Fast charging can be done up to a power of 100 kW. The battery can recover to 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes.

Several markets will only have this electric version in their catalog. This will be the case for Austria, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the Nordic markets, Portugal and the United Kingdom. Will this single engine be enough to break through? We doubt it a bit.
