Earlier than expected – Lieserschlucht: total closure is lifted

This will please some road users, but also residents. The Lieser Gorge will be open to traffic again this Friday – earlier than expected.

Actually, the Lieser Gorge should not have been passable again until May 17th. “The work was finished earlier, so instead of next week we can lift the full closure next Friday,” announced District Governor Klaus Brandner. Residents of the Fratres, the alternative route leads over this hill in Spittal, will also be happy about this opening. Because for the residents, the current traffic situation that is taking place in the village is “unbearable”. With the lifting of the total closure, however, the situation should calm down a bit. Next closure planned? But the work in the Lieser Gorge is far from finished. “The next block should then take place during the construction of the cantilever plates for the cycle path,” says the district captain. However, that part of the project must first be checked and approved by the Court of Auditors. “If nothing comes up, i.e. no elementary events or anything else, no suspension is planned for this year,” Brandner continued. A total of 2.5 million euros was invested in the sub-project, which required completion work on the sewer and also blasting and repair work along the roadway. City boss Gerhard Köfer is happy: “It was high time to end this ban. It was an incredible burden on the environment, the residents of Fratres and the thousands of commuters every day. This also calms the traffic situation in the city center.” What the mayor criticizes: “This state construction site has cost the residents some nerves, there will never be a construction site like this again!”
