On the night of Friday September 8 to Saturday September 9, 2023, the earth shook in Morocco, the country of origin of Jamel Debouzze. Although he was born in Paris in 1975, the comedian of French-Moroccan origin has always maintained a special connection with the land of his ancestors. In addition to being at the origin of the annual Marrakech laughter festival, he and his wife Mélissa Theuriau took up residence there for part of the year according to our colleagues at Leisure TV. The actor therefore announced, unsurprisingly, his desire to help the population by going there on Sunday September 10, 2023 during the special edition of TF1, Solidarity Morocco : “Of course, obviously, I’m going there this evening. A lot [de personnes] in the same case as me are trying to return to the country to get news of the families, to see how we can help concretely. There is an incredible surge of solidarity, we can see it on site, but also throughout the world. We are all haggard in the face of this situation, we wonder how to be useful“.
A call for solidarity launched by the actor
After confirming his departure for Morocco, the 48-year-old actor gave updates on the situation there: “Hospitals are saturated and Morocco today really lacks blood donations. We will all have to show solidarity and call for donations. and that all this money is put to good use, obviously”. “According to information from the Quai d’Orsay at BFM TV, on September 10, among the many victims, there were four French nationals near Marrakech. In contact with his family there, the father of two children expressed his desolation and his concern: “I immediately got news from my family. Fortunately, many got away with it. We realize through everything we hear that it is catastrophic, that never in the history of my family have we experienced something like this. There is great anxiety at the moment in Morocco.”. Like him, comedian Gad Elmaleh launched an appeal for a little earlier Sunday September 10, 2023 on BFM TV : “Today I encourage people who are perplexed, who cry in front of their TV and don’t know what to do, I tell them that every penny counts”.
