Easter holidays brought forward by 15 days?

The government being uncompromising on the closure of schools, Valérie Pécresse, president of the Ile-de-France region, proposes to bring forward the spring holidays, before the Easter weekend. For the moment, the proposal has not been accepted by the executive.

While the situation is critical: the number of cases in Ile-de-France is close to the peak in October during the second wave, hospitals and health personnel are under water and continue to note the multiplication of arrivals in hospital wards. Even if the government has opted for free containment in 16 departments in France – which puzzles a good number of people – it is possible that a new milestone will be crossed in the actions implemented to curb the virus.

Either way, the schools will remain open. On the other hand, the president of the Ile-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, proposes to bring the spring holidays forward by 2 weeks, to make them coincide with the Easter weekend.

What to do to regulate the health situation?

Remember, Ile-de-France is in zone C, and the holidays must in principle begin on April 17 and end on the evening of May 2. But Valérie Pécresse, in view of the situation, sees things differently. “I wonder if the right measure would not be to bring the school holidays forward by 15 days in order to close the schools from April 2,” suggests the president of the region at Paris Match. In other words, she proposes to bring the holidays forward just before Easter, just to slow down the crisis before the inevitable family meals of this festive weekend, and to prevent children from the increased risk of contamination after that.

The prefect of Ile-de-France has for the moment not accepted the proposal of Valérie Pécresse, in order to keep the schools open as long as the situation allows. What the president particularly deplores is the rate of contamination in high schools, and also the use of public transport, which seems to be too high to curb contamination.

To better situate itself in the current health crisis: the Regional Health Agency (ARS) has asked hospitals in Ile-de-France “to anticipate an increase in the number of beds”, with the objective of 2200 available beds . It seems that the threshold of 1,500 patients in intensive care will soon be crossed.
