MADRID, May 30 (Reuters) – The European Central Bank (ECB) is expected to raise rates by 25 basis points in July and September, its chief economist, Philip Lane, said after a hike of half a point was mentioned for July by other economists of the institution.

In an interview with the Spanish economic newspaper Cinco Dias published on Monday, Philip Lane also said that the ECB was not unaware of the risk of financial fragmentation in the euro zone and that it was “determined to avoid it” within the limits of his mandate.
