tsf. The pandemic continues to have a strong impact on the number of visitors to the Jungfrau Railway Group. The number of guests at the Jungfraujoch is slightly higher than in the previous year and reflects the largely absent international guests. As the company announced on Tuesday, 365,300 visitors traveled to the Jungfraujoch last year. That is 65.4 percent fewer guests than in the record year 2019, but 0.7 percent more guests than in 2020. At that time, operations were idle for almost three months due to the lockdown.

The Harderbahn recovered best in the adventure mountains segment. Compared to 2020, it recorded 352,900 ascents and descents in 2021, an increase of 36.1 percent. In the case of the Firstbahn, there was an overall minus of 2 percent over summer and winter. The Lauterbrunnen-Mürren (BLM) cable car had 10.8 percent fewer guests than in 2020, which is mainly due to the two interruptions of several weeks due to the intensive construction phases as part of the renovation work.

The start of the 2021/2022 winter season was the best in the last ten years. As expected, the new V-Bahn had a positive effect on winter sports. From the start of the season to December 31, 2021, the Jungfrau Ski Region registered 192,300 visits. Compared to the same period a year ago, this corresponds to an increase of 25.1 percent. The Jungfrau Ski Region is a cooperation product in which the Jungfrau Railway Group has a stake of over 60 percent.

In addition to the weather, the further development of the corona situation is decisive for the further course of business for the group. It has been shown that international travel will pick up quickly as soon as the pandemic situation allows, the company writes in the press release.

China’s industry ends the year powerfully

(dpa) According to an important economic indicator, the mood in Chinese industry developed positively towards the end of the year. The Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) published on Tuesday by the Chinese business magazine “Caixin” rose from 49.9 to 50.9 points in December compared to the previous month – the highest value in half a year. A value above the 50 point mark means an expansion of industrial activity, a value below that means a decrease.

The Beijing statistical office had already published its official purchasing managers’ index on Friday, which had also developed positively. Due to strict epidemiological measures, China has come through the corona pandemic comparatively well so far. However, the country’s economic recovery had lost momentum since early summer.
