Ed Sheeran has not been reachable by phone since 2015. In a podcast he now spoke about the decision to no longer have a cell phone.
If you want to contact Ed Sheeran (30), you have to write an email. Because the singer hasn’t had a cell phone since 2015. In the podcast “The Collector’s Edition” he now explains why he decided to throw away his phone seven years ago. The cell phone had a major impact on his mental health, Sheeran said. “I was very, very overwhelmed and sad with the phone. I felt really bad the whole time.”
In particular, the pressure to answer messages immediately “stressed him out,” explains the Briton. After getting rid of the cell phone, he felt “as if the veil had been lifted.” The best thing about life without a smartphone is that he can “personally and uninterruptedly enjoy the moments with the people I love”. “I haven’t broken off contact with people, it’s just become less,” says the singer. He can now only be reached via email. “Every few days I open my laptop and reply to ten emails,” explains Ed Sheeran. “Then I get on with my life without feeling overwhelmed.”
