EDF: builds a biomass power plant in West Africa

(CercleFinance.com) – EDF announced yesterday that it had laid the first stone of the largest biomass power plant in West Africa, with its partners Meridiam and SIFCA.

Located in the town of Aboisso, about 100 km east of Abidjan, the 46 MW plant will be powered by agricultural residues and will meet the electricity needs of the equivalent of 1.7 million people per year.

This project is part of the National Action Plan for Renewable Energies 2014-2030 in Côte d’Ivoire, which aims to achieve 45% of its energy mix from renewable energies by 2030.

‘Real technological and industrial innovation, the project will avoid 4.5 million tonnes of CO2 over the 25 years of operation and make the Ivorian electricity system more reliable’, underlines EDF.

The commissioning of this plant is scheduled for the end of 2025.
