PARIS (Reuters) – The Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) on Tuesday asked EDF to revise its strategy for controlling corrosion problems at some of its nuclear reactors in France, a request linked to the discovery of a crack important on a circuit of reactor number 1 at the Penly power plant.

The crack observed on a circuit of reactor number 1 at the Penly power plant “had no consequences for the personnel or the environment”, indicated the ASN in a press release, but this event nevertheless “affected the safety function related to reactor cooling.

An EDF spokesman said the objective was still, as it stands, to restart the Penly plant in early May.

ASN has announced that it will soon take a position on EDF’s revised strategy.
