(Boursier.com) — EDF was contacted by the State, in order to provide an irradiation service at the Civaux nuclear power plant, in support of the CEA. An irradiation service consists of inserting material into the reactor core to make it radioactive.

The purpose of the nuclear reactors in EDF’s production fleet, including those at Civaux, is the production of controllable carbon-free electricity to serve the French energy transition. This additional additional activity will be added to the main mission of electricity production. This request from the State has no impact on the operation of the Civaux power plant and its purpose. Furthermore, the two Civaux reactors remain subject to the regime of civil nuclear installations.

There are no plans to extend this additional activity to other reactors in the fleet.

An agreement between the State, the CEA and EDF will be signed setting out the scope of activities, the rights and obligations of each party in compliance with EDF’s governance rules.
