EDF will pay most of the balance of the 2021 dividend in the form of shares

PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The EDF group announced on Thursday that a large majority of its shareholders, including the State, had opted for payment in shares of the balance of the 2021 dividend, which will limit to 71.6 million euros the amount to be paid in cash.

In total, “93.28% of the rights were exercised in favor of a payment in shares”, indicated in a press release the electrician owned nearly 84% by the French State.

EDF had announced the payment of a dividend of 0.58 euros per share for the past financial year, including an interim payment of 0.30 euros paid at the end of 2021 and a balance of 0.28 euros payable in cash or in shares.

The group specified that this choice of shareholders would result in the creation of 131.5 million new shares, or around 3.4% of the total shares after the capital increase, at a price of 7.44 euros per share. The cash amount to be paid to shareholders who have not withheld payment in shares will amount to approximately €71.6 million and will be paid as of June 13, 2022.

EDF shares ended Thursday up 6.3%, at 8.62 euros, driven by information from Les Echos reporting that a takeover of 100% of the capital of the public energy company by the State is among “the priority projects” of the new government.
