Appointed to the post of Prime Minister by Emmanuel Macron shortly after the latter’s victory in the 2017 presidential election, Edouard Philippe was Matignon’s resident for several years, before being replaced by Jean Castex in 2020. During his mandate as head of government, the one who is currently the mayor of Le Havre has changed a lot. Suffering from vitiligo and alopecia, Edward Philippe has seen his physical appearance radically change in recent years. While he sported dark hair and a full beard in 2017, the former Prime Minister is today bald and clean-shaven. In addition, his last hair is now completely white, and he no longer has any eyebrows. While he has already spoken on the subject numerous times in the media, Edouard Philippe was once again questioned about his two illnesses by Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine Tuesday October 3, 2023, in the show C to you on France 5.
Edouard Philippe: “As my mind changes, am I obliged to talk about it?”
The mayor of Le Havre then had difficulty hiding his annoyance on the air. “At the same time, I’ve already talked about it a lot so I’m not sure I really want to continue. What do you want to know ?”, he said to the presenter. Finally, Edouard Philippe agreed to discuss his two illnesses once again. The former Prime Minister notably revealed how some people use his vitiligo and his alopecia to try to destabilize him, and to understand if this does not hide something more serious. “Sometimes they do it consciously, sometimes unconsciously, I’ve seen journalists do it, political friends (with a lot of quotes) do it, of course it exists, that’s how it is, that’s life. As my head changes, do I have to talk about it? As someone asks me the question, I answer. I don’t really want to spend hours there. You know, it’s always much smarter than that, it’s never a statement. It’s always a question. The rumor is always a question”, underlined the politician.
