Edouard Philippe, Christine Lagarde… Who do the French want as Prime Minister?


After the re-election of Emmanuel Macron this Sunday, Jean Castex could submit his resignation in the coming days. The identity of his successor is one of the challenges of the second five-year term.

Questioned in an OpinionWay survey for CNEWS and Europe 1, 1,316 French people were asked to choose from a list of potential Prime Ministers the political personality they prefer.

Via this questionnaire, 18% of respondents expressed the wish for Edouard Philippe to return to Matignon, 9% would like the appointment of the director of the European Central Bank (ECB) Christine Lagarde, 8% would like that of the current Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire and 7% would like Jean Castex to remain in office.

Ministers Jean-Yves Le Drian (Foreign Affairs), Elisabeth Borne (Labour), Amélie de Montchalin (Public Service) and Julien Denormandie (Agriculture) are only voted for by 5%, 2%, 1% and 1% of respondents respectively. .

Overall, 47% of those questioned do not want any of these personalities to become Prime Minister.
