In order to allow the children to recognize them, the staff of the centers found a simple and effective solution.

It’s an original idea! In Loire-Atlantique, in each of the Re-opening Medico-Educational Institutes (IMEs), educational staff wear mysterious t-shirts. Forced to wear masks in order to comply with the sanitary measures imposed by the Covid-19, they decided to print their faces on their t-shirts so as not to disturb the children. Within these centers there are mentally handicapped children and some, who lacked bearings during this crisis, would certainly have had trouble recognizing their educator with their mask.

The idea was to make a gesture for them, which was supported by a company in the town to make the t-shirts in an emergency. According to Gaelle Lesage responsible for the IME, medico-educational institutes of Adapei (Departmental association of parents of people with intellectual disabilities and their friends) and cited by Ouest-France, "Throughout the confinement, the staff were very imaginative to keep in touch and continued to take care of the children from a distance. This new initiative is in the same vein. "

A smooth recovery

Students studying in an IME, or integrated in a school or an ordinary high school are now 60 to 70% to have resumed classes. If the recovery is done for the hour in small groups and part-time, it nevertheless allows the children to resume a normal rhythm of life. The return to teaching is very supervised since there is one educator per child.
