Edwy Plenel: her grandson would have been placed in police custody for “insulting” the police: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

According to the newspaper The Parisian, the grandson of Edwy Plenel, the founder of Mediapartwould have been placed in police custody on Friday October 13, 2023 in Paris after accusations of “contempt and participation in a group with a view to preparing violence and/or damage to property” against the police forces. The 17-year-old young man allegedly incited violence towards the police during the demonstration for purchasing power which was held in Paris the same day. He would have been spotted as “sensitive profile” on the sidelines of the procession of the inter-union demonstration aimed in particular at defending a better sharing of wealth. During his arrest, he allegedly tried to escape the police by asking the thugs present to protect him. According to a security source cited by the newspaper The Parisianthe grandson of Edwy Plenel would have notably called for violence through insulting remarks such as: “We must kill them all!”. Saturday October 14, the teenager would still be in police custody.

Several arrests during the demonstration

According to The Parisian, Edwy Plenel’s grandson would not be the only one to have been placed in police custody. While the demonstration against austerity was less attended than usual, this did not prevent excesses. A total of 23 arrests took place on Friday October 13 alongside the procession, including three women and four male minors. They are accused of participation in a group with a view to preparing violence and/or damage to property, intentional violence against a person holding public authority, contempt-rebellion or throwing projectiles at the police. Several acts of vandalism have been recorded, including tags all along the route. Bus shelters were also damaged. Friday October 13, there were 9,100 demonstrators in Paris and nearly 92,500 throughout France according to the police, compared to 200,000 announced by the CGT. Participation down compared to previous days of mobilization against pensions in 2023. According to the CGT, at the lowest level there were 300,000 in Paris and nearly 900,000 throughout France.
