Eglantine Eméyé mother of an autistic son: her vitriolic response to Eric Zemmour

Mother of a teenager with multiple disabilities, Eglantine Eméyé was shocked by Eric Zemmour. The facilitator reacted to the candidate’s remarks on access to school for children with disabilities.

Eglantine Eméyé is “shocked”. A few days ago, the host heard Eric Zemmour’s controversial proposal about children with disabilities. Traveling to Honnecourt-sur-Escaut, the presidential candidate had explained “to think that we actually need specialized establishments, except for people with slight disabilities”. “As for the rest, yes, I think the obsession with inclusion is a bad way for other children and for these children, who are, the poor, completely overwhelmed by other children. So I think that we need specialized teachers who take care of it”, he added during a discussion with parents of students. A controversial proposal that caused a real outcry. Mother of an autistic little boy, Eglantine Eméyé was very shocked by the words of Eric Zemmour.

“He raised a question that deserves to be brought to the fore and it’s a real reflection. But obviously I was shocked by such comments. It’s been years that, in the disability, we fight for our children to have access to school”, explained Eglantine Eméyé on the set of BFMTV this Wednesday, January 19, very concerned by the subject even if her little boy, Samy is “too disabled to benefit from going to school”. For her, “Mr. Zemmour took shortcuts and his release proves that he doesn’t know much about it” on this subject, “sensitive and very complex”. “But when he says ‘it’s a bad way for other children’, it’s extremely shocking, she got very annoyed. His reaction proves above all that Mr. Zemmour did not grow up with disabled people and that he knows nothing about it.

Eglantine Eméyé: “He is an intellectual competition”

“Disability is very broad, it is not simply limited to an intellectual capacity. (…) It creates an intellectual competition between so-called typical children and disabled children. Putting disabled people together is is what we’ve been doing for years and years and years”, continued Eglantine Eméyé. President of the association Un pas vers la vie, the facilitator is committed to the inclusion of people with disabilities. And in particular of his youngest son, aged 16. Diagnosed with hemiplegia on the left side after a stroke in childhood and autistic at the age of one, little Samy has been living in Hyères since 2013, where he is being followed for his severe autistic disorders. On BFMTV, a few hours earlier, Eric Zemmour declared that he did not want to listen to the parents of disabled children because they “absolutely want their children to be among others”.
