Eight stages, white roads and a justice of the peace for the Tour de France women

Between 1984 and 1989, a Tour de France was organized with stages contested before those of the men. Marked by the rivalry between Jeannie Longo and the Italian Maria Canins, this race was stopped because it was judged “Too restrictive economically” by the organization.

It is therefore a rebirth 32 years later for the Tour de France women, organized by ASO (Amaury Sport Organization), whose route was presented Thursday, October 14 in Paris. “This new event will live a life of its own and will keep the Tour’s designers on fire for a week of intense battle”, promises its director, Marion Rousse.

The 1,029 km long event will start on July 24 (arrival day of the Men’s Tour) from the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It will then head east with a stage from the 4th stage worthy of the “Strade Bianche” on the white roads of Champagne.

After two mid-mountain stages, the choice piece is reserved for the last weekend with the ascent of the Grand Ballon in Alsace, on Saturday July 30, followed by the formidable climb of the Planche des Belles Filles (7 km to 8 , 7%). The ideal place to win or lose this new generation women’s Tour de France.
