Elden Ring: Is the multiplayer mode likely to suffer the same fate as that of Dark Souls 3?

We announced it to you last January: servers for all Dark Souls games had to shut down on Steam due to too many security breaches. At that time, we were confident that this cut would be temporary. However, the months pass and nothing seems to move. Finally if: for a few days, the Steam pages of the Dark Souls games do not display no more mention of an online PvP or Co-op mode in game features. This change was made completely in the shadows and we have no official press release from the developers at this time. FromSoftware.

Should we be concerned about similar treatment for Elden Ring in the coming weeks ?

Where exactly did the mentions of the online mode go?

What’s going on with the Dark Souls servers?

Let’s recall the events that occurred at the beginning of 2022. While many players and even some hackers had warned Bandai Namco and FromSoftware that there were serious security flaws on their servers for a long time, the publishers had preferred to turn a deaf ear. However, last January, two particularly severe flaws were discovered, the latter being up to thepure and simple destruction of a computer connected to the online mode of Dark Souls 3.

Faced with a threat that could no longer be ignored, the decision to completely shut down the servers the time to improve security had been taken quickly and overnight online connection was no longer possible for Dark Souls players. Since that moment, we have had no further communication from the publisher, including in recent days when obviously a radical decision has been made: the permanent shutdown of the license servers. Indeed, even if we cannot confirm it without an official announcement, the disappearance of the labels “Online Co-op” and “Online PvP” of the Steam pages still widely suggests that the change will become permanent.

The players are therefore very angry and are eagerly awaiting explanations from Bandai and FromSoftware. Beyond anger faces now turn feverishly to Elden Ring which may well undergo the same treatment.

What is the risk for Elden Ring?

Elden Ring needs no introduction as its success is resounding. The latest from FromSoftware, the game is a real success for the publisher. However, faced with the storm crossed by its predecessors in the Dark Souls saga, players are worried: Are the game servers likely to close too? There are several theories.

The first, which seems most likely, is that developers focus on security of Elden Ring servers precisely to prevent them from suffering the same fate as those of Dark Souls. This would explain why repairing these is taking longer than expected as the workforce is busy reinforcing the most recent game. On its release, the data miners who looked into the software architecture of the game had noted that the flaws present in Dark Souls were at least partially present on Elden Ring, which had many people concerned. We therefore imagine that the strike force of FromSoftware absolutely wants to avoid the same attacks on the success of the moment.

A second, slightly more conspiratorial theory suggests that Bandai would have voluntarily delayed the repair of Dark Souls servers until finally giving up to force players to migrate to the studio’s latest release. Even if this scenario seems unlikely and comes from an angry community, such a situation would imply that we would not have to worry about the disappearance of the online mode of Elden Ring, quite the contrary.

We will therefore keep a close eye on this subject because this one may grow rapidlyespecially if the players do not quickly have very good explanations on what is happening in the premises of FromSoftware.

Dear Shardless, have you ever imagined what Elden Ring would look like in a cartoon? CarbotAnimations did it, and plunges us into various adventures within an animated Entre-terre, which still retains its wild and hostile side.
