  • The technology group ABB has appointed the current head of the electrification division, Morten Wierod, as the new CEO.
  • Wierod will take office at the beginning of August and succeed Björn Rosengren, who will leave the company at the end of 2024, ABB said.
  • Rosengren took over the top job at ABB four years ago, before that he headed the Swedish Sandvik Group.

The designated CEO Wierod has been working at ABB since 1998 and has been part of the management team for around five years. Before the 52-year-old Norwegian took over the electrification department, he headed the drive technology division. The group is now looking for a successor to lead the electrification area.

ABB boss Björn Rosengren received compensation totaling almost 9.7 million francs in the 2023 financial year. That is significantly more than the almost 8.1 million in the previous year.

At CHF 1.79 million, the basic salary was slightly higher than the previous year. In addition, there were pension and other additional benefits as well as variable remuneration, as can be seen from the published annual report.

In total, the members of the Executive Board received 40.6 million francs for the past financial year. In 2022, the top managers still received 36 million francs in salary, bonuses, share awards and pension benefits. The members of the Board of Directors received a total of 4.38 million francs for their term of office, which is exactly the same as in the previous year.

Wierod is very familiar with ABB’s decentralized business model, has extensive expertise in the most important customer segments and a strong track record, Chairman of the Board of Directors Peter Voser is quoted as saying.
