PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The cap on the rise in electricity prices at 4% will remain in force throughout 2022, without tariff catch-up in 2023, the Minister of the Economy indicated on Monday. and Finance, Bruno Le Maire.
Regulated electricity tariffs could nevertheless increase next year if market prices remain at current levels or increase further. “In 2023, we want to continue to protect the French against the increase in electricity and gas prices,” said the minister during a press briefing.
The rise in electricity prices in recent months has made the government’s “tariff shield” more expensive than initially expected, with an additional financing need “in the order of 2 billion euros”, also clarified Bruno Le Maire.
The finance bill for 2023 which will be unveiled in the fall will contain measures to meet this need for financing but “there will be no catch-up on the electricity bill” of the French, he added. .
Bruno Le Maire also confirmed the freezing of gas prices for the whole of 2022.
