Electricity prices: “The cheap volume sold by EDF will increase”, announces Barbara Pompili on LCI

The government faced with the headache of electricity prices. Earlier this week, questioned on LCI, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire had warned: “If we do nothing, the bill will increase by 38 to 40%” from February. After having already reduced the main tax on electricity to the maximum, the executive is in tune to find a new measure preventing the price increase from being passed on to the bill of the French.

This measure “will make it possible to maintain this 4% for our fellow citizens, but also for all small businesses with fewer than ten employees and less than two million euros in turnover subject to regulated tariffs”, assures Barbara Pompili. In detail, the volume of nuclear electricity sold at a reduced price by EDF to its competitors will increase “exceptionally from 100 to 120 terawatt hours”, specified to Parisian the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire, guest of 1 p.m. of TF1 this Friday.

“It is an effort that we are asking EDF for, it has a significant cost”, continues Barbara Pompili. “We will be alongside EDF to help them overcome this difficulty.”

On the other hand, the Minister for Ecological Transition refuses the idea of aid to the French specially created 87 days before the presidential election. “The measures announced will avoid massive postponements of price increases next year”, defends Barbara Pompili. “If we did not take these measures, there would be a very sharp increase for all those who are not subject to regulated tariffs and we would have a massive postponement next year for electricity prices. These measures are also being taken so that the next government is not forced into very large increases next year.”
