Electronic Arts: NFTs are not a priority for the publisher for now

The NFT are at the heart of many debates at the start of 2022. Many publishers or studios have expressed their interest in this new business, but many have also faced backlash from their communities. , who expressed their hostility to the practice. Witness the very recent example of Team 17, who backtracked on his desire for NFT after negative feedback from his partners. Electronic Arts had expressed interest in NFTs during its second quarter review of this fiscal year, but a quarter later, the speech is not entirely the same.

EA is taking it slow

In his third quarter review for fiscal year 2022/2023, EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson insisted that this new market is something that is the subject of much speculation at the moment, and that the situation must be assessed with caution. He recalls that this is not something in which EA is fully invested, not everything closing the door (remarks relayed by VGC):

I believe that collecting will continue to be an important part of our industry, the games and the experiences we provide to our players. Whether this is part of NFTs or blockchain remains to be seen.. And I think the way we think is to provide the best possible user experience. And so, we’ll evaluate that over time, but right now it’s not something we’re focusing on. ยป

The latest debacles around the model have necessarily been closely scrutinized by EA, which will therefore take precautions before knowing whether or not it intends to invest in the NFT market.
