Electronic Arts was right: the winner of the 2022 World Cup is Argentina!

Last night, France had a painful moment after their team’s defeat in the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Argentina. If we could hope to see Kylian Mbappé and his teammates win, the Electronic Arts studio was already predicting a defeat.

Electronic Arts, the studio behind the famous FIFA games, has been specializing in football for more than 20 years. Like every year, EA has revealed that it simulated the world’s biggest football tournament in its annual video game to see which country would win. Although not all matches turned out to be exact, the studio did a good job of finding the winner.

Indeed, last November, EA claimed that Argentina would win the 2022 World Cup, and it was indeed Lionel Messi’s team who lifted the cup. If it looks like just a fluke, the studio has quite a reputation when it comes to predictions.

EA often predicts World Cup winners

In the past, Electronic Arts has regularly provided accurate information about the most important events in football. The studio had already predicted the winners of the 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cups. These were Spain in South Africa, Germany in Brazil and France in Russia, respectively.

It is therefore the fourth consecutive World Cup in which EA manages to announce the winner in advance. However, it should be noted that Electronic Arts thought it was Brazil who would face Argentina in the final this year.

The next appointment is therefore given for 2026, where it is hoped that the French team will manage to lift the cup this time. We will obviously have to follow EA’s predictions, which will give us a good idea of the final result. In the meantime, we recall that the studio has ended its famous FIFA franchise, since it has changed its name to become EA Sports Football Club. The next World Cup simulation will therefore not run in FIFA 27, but in the new Studio series.
