The Nikola Tesla series from Elica brings together a whole range of hotplates equipped with an extractor hood in their center, often very aesthetic. The Unplugged model marks its difference with wheels instead of touch buttons.
Induction hobs with a ventilation system are no longer really a novelty. The manufacturer Elica has been producing them for many years now, and the latest addition to the Nikola Tesla range is called Unplugged.
With a total power of 7200 W, the plate is 90 cm long and 53 cm deep, which is not unusual for a device combining these two functions. On this surface there are four completely identical inductors, with a maximum power of 3700 W each. It is possible to combine the two hearths on the right or on the left in order to form a vast cooking zone which will be used for large or atypically shaped containers, a fishmonger for example. No indication about the number of adjustment levels has filtered so far, but most Elica models being equipped with nine of said levels, it is very likely that this is also the case with the Nikola Tesla Unplugged.
The characteristics of the extractor hood have not been communicated, but we know that its maximum flow rate reaches 630 m³/h; difficult to draw any conclusions. The manufacturer’s sheet also mentions a maximum sound level of 66 dB(A), still in intensive mode. When the extractor hood is not in use, a pivoting lid closes the suction port.
The control panel is quite special. Indeed, while the vast majority of hobs are equipped with sensitive keys, the Italian manufacturer, for aesthetic reasons, has chosen wheels, similar to those found on cooking pianos. These rotary knobs control not only the inductors, but also the ventilation system. They are notched for greater comfort of use and, as is the case with the Samsung NZ63J9770EK hob, a magnetic system retains them on the glass surface. They are therefore removable, to facilitate cleaning.
The Nikola Tesla Unplugged hob should go on sale sometime next October. We do not yet know its launch price, but, taking into account the on-board technologies and the brand, it should be around 2000 €.
