Elisabeth Moreno was marked by a tragedy. As a child, she accidentally set fire to her little sister’s cradle. And this terrible domestic accident earned him “the trauma of guilt”.
Former director of HP Africa, Elisabeth Moreno became Minister in charge of Equality between women and men on July 6, 2020. Native of Cape Verde, she says she owes a lot to France, a country which has “saved (his) sister“. It is indeed because of a terrible domestic accident that Elisabeth Moreno joined France when she was young. She accidentally set fire to the cradle of her little sister Marie. Burned, the latter did not could be treated on the spot. This serious episode earned her “the trauma of guilt“, as she evokes in the portrait that paints her Release, this Thursday, January 6.
In 1976, when her mother was out for a few moments, the future minister “drops an oil lamp which falls into the cradle of her little sister Marie whom she had come to console“. The baby then finds itself between life and death.”It took years to shake off the trauma of guilt“, admits the policy of 51 years. Transported from Cape Verde to Portugal, then finally to France where she will be treated, Marie will be saved after two years of hospitalization. She is today commercial, specify our colleagues.

Accountable to France
“This country saved my sister, how can I not feel indebted to him“, considers Elisabeth Moreno. The one whose existence “ticked all the boxes of impossibility”, with “parents who can neither read nor write, a woman, black, raised in a city and evolving in the building then the techs”, as she informed the Figaro in 2019, finally became director of HP Africa – with a salary of nearly 40,000 euros per month – before joining the Jean Castex government.
