ElitePartner is a GmbH of the same name that was founded in 2004 and has been majority owned by ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE since 2016. It belongs to the ParshipMeet Group, an umbrella company in which ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE combines its dating offers. It is based in Hamburg. The portal can be accessed via a website as well as the Android and iOS app.

Login and registration

Registering on ElitePartner is also the most important step. We only used the application via the desktop version and can therefore only report on it. But the experience via the app should be similar. When registering, you will be asked about your gender and the gender of your potential partner; homosexual relationships are possible (although there are no gender identities other than man and woman).

After registering for the first time with your email address and password, you will be asked to complete the personality test. This is a form with around 86 questions that revolve around your personality and character. The test is used to determine individual character traits. You can then fill out your profile in more detail and choose which criteria your potential partner should have.

This is how you get to know each other through ElitePartner

The getting to know you process on ElitePartner is much less complicated than the initial registration. On the homepage or on the Discover page you get direct access to profile suggestions, which are displayed on a scale from 0 to 100 based on the matching score. The better you fit together, the higher the result.

On a profile page you can see a few photos of the person, their character traits and a few statements about the person themselves. You can give them a compliment there or – if you use the premium version – write to them directly and start a conversation. There is also the option to initiate contact using an “icebreaker”.

You can refine which profiles you want to see on the Discover page. There are criteria such as age, height, smoker/non-smoker or desire to have children. It is also possible to search in a specific region or people in a specific federal state or in the area around your own location.

These paid functions are available

Our biggest criticism of ElitePartner is, in addition to the high price of the premium functions, also the opacity that exists in the subscription models and the personality test. According to ElitePartner, the test itself is free, but there is only a short version of the result if you don’t want to pay. Depending on the scope of the analysis, the portal charges up to 149 euros for the complete results – but unfortunately you only find out about this after you register. After all: the personality test is free for premium users.

You heard right, there is no uniform pricing per customer here. The premium subscriptions also have the following note in the small print: “The price has been personalized based on automated decision-making.” This means that not every customer pays the same price for their premium subscription, but rather that it depends on your personal financial circumstances. Where the data for this comes from remains unclear.

In our case, the subscription models – there are three different ones – cost between 22 and 49 euros per month, although in many cases the lower price can only be achieved through a term of several months. Even with monthly payments, the subscriptions always have a term of at least six to 24 months. In the worst case scenario, we would have to fork out a one-time fee of 549 euros for a 24-month subscription.

Personalized pricing and long terms

The duration varies depending on the subscription model. While the basic premium subscription is available with a six-month term starting at 44.90 euros per month, the premium comfort subscription is only available for a 24-month term starting at 22.90 euros per month. So if you want the full functionality of ElitePartner, you have to commit to a subscription period of 24 months. The minimum amount that a premium customer pays is a whopping 269.40 euros for six months of Premium basic with a one-off payment. The notice period is always one month, otherwise the subscription will be extended.

We view this approach very critically. Not only is there no clarity for a customer as to how much they have to pay for a subscription before they even register for the platform. Customers are also tied to the platform in the long term due to very long contract periods. If you have found your perfect partner after, say, three months, the rest of the premium subscription is pointless, but you still have to pay.

In addition, people who are seriously interested in finding a partner through ElitePartner are almost forced to take out a premium subscription due to the major restrictions on the free version. Without a subscription, the ability to write to profiles is very limited. For example, you cannot reply to incoming messages. The purchase decision here is often directly dependent on a possible message.

But what do you get with a premium subscription to ElitePartner? The Premium basic model offers the following features:

• Individual analysis of your relationship personality (i.e. complete access to personality test results)
• The Premium plus and Premium comfort also have the following features (these two subscriptions only differ in the price and duration):
• Find singles near you
• See all photos
• Exclusive contact guarantee (ElitePartner does not reveal detailed information about what this is about)
• In addition to these subscription models and the personality test, there are no paid features at ElitePartner.

Respectability and fake profiles

However, the high pricing at ElitePartner offers a ray of hope: fake profiles are virtually non-existent, most entries are filled out well and in detail and give a good picture of the person behind the profile. In any case, this promotes the possibility of finding a serious and long-term relationship. ElitePartner clearly rejects quick flirts or one-night stands; we also refer to other platforms and dating apps.
