On the eve of the 70th anniversary of Elizabeth II’s reign, the Queen has opened up about the future role of Camilla Parker Bowles once she becomes the king’s wife.

It took 17 years. Married since 2005 to British Crown Prince Charles, Camilla Shand, former wife Parker Bowles, now knows more about the future of her role within British royalty. Since her marriage to the Prince of Wales, the one who became Duchess of Cornwall did not know the title that would qualify her once her husband was crowned king. If some crown pundits felt she should call herself “Princess Consort”, the queen has ruled : the future wife of the king will call herself queen consort. In a statement released on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of his reignthe queen wrote: “I sincerely wish that in due time Camilla will be known as Queen consort as she continues her loyal service.”

At issue behind this persistent doubt over the years, the second wife position of Camilla Shand. She succeeds Diana Spencer, known as Lady Di, first wife of Prince Charles, mother of Crown Prince William and Prince Harry, who died in 1997. For her part, the Duchess of Cornwall was also married to Andrew Parker Bowles. In 2005, on the occasion of their marriage, the Department of Constitutional Affairs had already ruled on the matter, assuring that nothing prevented her from obtaining the title of queen consort. However, the question continued to cause a lot of ink to flow, which is surely the reason behind Elizabeth II’s desire to clarify the situation.
