Contrary to rumours, Ellen DeGeneres is still alive. But what has the entertainer actually been doing since the end of her show?
Entertainer Ellen DeGeneres, 65, was the victim of fake death reports earlier this week. On August 30, the hashtag #ripellen (engl. “Rest in peace, Ellen”) made the rounds on Platform X (formerly Twitter), and numerous users expressed their condolences. But now it turns out: everything is just a fake. ‘Cause DeGeneres is jolly and alive as can be seen in the current photos of the “Daily Mail”. The pictures show the 65-year-old in the parking lot of a shopping center in Montecito, California.
It’s not the first time social media has claimed that the comedienne is dead. Since her famous The Ellen DeGeneres Show ended in 2022, DeGeneres has been out in public a lot less.
Ellen DeGeneres tries typical “retiree” hobbies
A few months after her show ended, Ellen DeGeneres announced a new project in October 2022: the YouTube format “Time For Yourself… with Ellen”. In it, the entertainer shows her new everyday life as a “pensioner” and shares, among other things, the numerous hobbies that she tries out – such as crocheting, gardening, mixing cocktails or watching birds.
In addition, the 65-year-old has created chickens, as she did last revealed on Instagram: “If I had been told that I would become a chicken influencer after my show, I probably would not have believed it, but now I do,” she wrote.
Also in the real estate business
DeGeneres keeps the chickens on her property in Montecito, California, which she shares with wife Portia de Rossi (50). The couple have several dogs and other pets. The two are also active in the real estate business and built an empire. They regularly buy new houses, renovate them and then sell them again for millions of dollars. According to “Architectural Digest”, they sold three houses worth millions in 2022 alone. DeGeneres and de Rossi have been a couple since 2004 and married in 2008.
DeGeneres began her career as a stand-up comedian in the early 1980s, appearing on the sitcom Ellen from 1994 to 1998. From 2003 she hosted her talk show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”, in which she regularly interviewed celebrity guests and for which she received numerous awards. In May 2021, DeGeneres announced that it would end after season 19. The final episode aired in May 2022.
