The British heir to the throne, Kate and William, not only have aristocrats in their circle of friends, but also some celebrities.
Royals and celebrities – this seems to be a good match. Again and again you see Prince William (41) and his wife Kate (41) on public dates together with stars. So he just presented his new project “Homewards” with singer Geri Halliwell-Horner (50). And the princess hit a few balls with tennis icon Roger Federer (41). Sure, such high-profile performances maximize attention. However, some connections are not only made on behalf of the crown: the couple heir to the British throne also maintain close relationships with well-known personalities behind the scenes.
These British stars are among the confidants
Singer Ellie Goulding (36), for example, has known the royal family for many years. At first she was considered a close friend of Prince Harry (38). But now she is also closely connected to his older brother and his wife. She was allowed to perform at the 2011 wedding and sing Elton John’s (76) hit “Your Song”. In addition, William and Kate completed their first dance as a married couple. How well the three get along could be seen in December 2022 at the Earthshot Prize Awards in Boston. They greeted each other enthusiastically, and the two women even kissed each other on the cheek.
The British actor Eddie Redmayne (41) is also part of the trusted circle of the royal couple of Wales. He has known Prince William for a very long time: they attended Eton College at the same time. Both were members of the Eton Society and played rugby together for the school team. In an interview with Andy Cohan (55) said the actor that he felt sorry for Prince William at the time. Because everyone wanted to attack him in rugby to show off afterwards.
Director Guy Ritchie (54) also has long connections to the Royals. Madonna’s ex-husband (60) is even related to Princess Kate. As a sixth cousin, he is part of the family and was also allowed to attend the wedding.
Among the guests in 2011 were soccer star David Beckham (48) and his wife Victoria (49). The dazzling celebrity couple has more in common with the heir to the throne than meets the eye. Kate is said to feel connected to the designer through fashion. William has worked with David Beckham on various campaigns, including London’s bid for the 2012 Olympics and an anti-poaching initiative.
They also have friends in Hollywood
But there are also prominent royal buddies outside of Great Britain. The most famous is probably Hollywood star Tom Cruise (60), who has often come out as a fan of the British royal family. During the “Top Gun: Maverick” premiere in May 2022 in London, the action star even became Kate’s savior: he charmingly helped her up the stairs. Cruise revealed to reporters, according to “Sky News”that he has a lot in common with the Princess of Wales: “We have a lot in common. We both love England and we both love flying.”
It is less well known that Kate should also get along well with Reese Witherspoon (47). The two women met during their royal tour of Canada and North America in 2011. In her book, Whiskey in a Teacup, she admitted that she was previously “immune” to royal enthusiasm. But meeting the future British queen changed that. Kate is “lovely and warm, elegant and calm”. After the meeting, they are said to have kept in touch. The princess is said to have even sent the actress a gift for the birth of son Tennessee (10) a year later.
