Celebrities and fans are shocked by the death of Elmar Wepper. Uschi Glas says that he was “a real friend”.
Elmar Wepper (1944-2023) is dead, as several media outlets unanimously reported on Tuesday. Fritz Wepper’s younger brother (82) was 79 years old. Shortly after the sad news became known, some of the actor’s colleagues and fans also said goodbye.
Among them is Uschi Glas (79), who was seen alongside him in “Polizeiinspektion 1” and from the late 1980s in the series “Zwei Münchner in Hamburg”. “Elmar Wepper was not only a favorite colleague of mine, but also a real friend,” she tells “RTL.de”. “I can’t believe it and I’m very sad.” She also chooses similar words in conversation with the “Bild” newspaper: “I am shocked. […] Elmar was not only one of my most important colleagues, but also a true friend to me and my husband. I had the most days of filming together with Elmar in my career.”
“I appreciated him incredibly”
“I am horrified that dear Elmar has left us,” the “Bild” quotes the actor Francis Fulton-Smith (57). In addition to Wepper’s wife and his son, his condolences also go to the brother of the deceased. “I feel particularly sorry for Fritz,” explains Fulton-Smith. “The Wepper brothers were inseparable – one heart and one soul. The two are part of my life and Elmar was one of the finest people that has ever existed in the German film business.”
Wepper’s Munich colleague Michaela May (71) speaks to the daily newspaper of a “huge loss”. She filmed with him in the 80s for the series “Somehow and Anyway”. “I’m totally confused, Elmar was such a sensitive, sensitive and loving colleague, person and actor,” says May. “I appreciated him incredibly.”
Elmar Wepper was a “true role model”
Bavaria’s re-elected Prime Minister Markus Söder (56) also expresses this appreciation. “It was with great shock that I learned of Elmar Wepper’s death,” he explains in a statement. Wepper was “a Bavarian all-rounder” and “moved people’s hearts.” According to Söder, Wepper was “a Bavarian actor in the very best sense, one who always managed to embody our homeland in film and television in a genuine and unpretentious manner. Bavaria will always keep his memory honorable.”
“I am devastated by the sudden death of Elmar Wepper,” explains Bavarian Social Affairs Minister Ulrike Scharf (55) in a statement. The actor is “an outstanding personality [gewesen]which has been socially committed in a diverse, intensive and over many decades – including for the “Tabaluga Children’s Foundation” and the “José Carreras Leukemia Foundation”. “Elmar Wepper has made our society more humane,” it continues. “Hardly any actor has embodied the white-blue way of life in film and television as easily and naturally as he does,” says Digital and Film Minister Judith Gerlach (37). “Wepper demonstrated an incredible range, from humorous TV classics like ‘Polizeiinspektion 1’ to serious character roles, for example in the Doris Dörrie drama ‘Cherry Blossoms – Hanami’. […] Elmar Wepper is one of the greats of Bavarian film in his humble, down-to-earth way.”
