In about six weeks, Elon Musk will step down from his role as Twitter boss. The entrepreneur has now announced this.

Elon Musk (51) will step down as CEO of Twitter, like the entrepreneur on May 11th announced on the short message service. He has found a successor to run the company, but has not yet announced her name.

He is pleased to announce “I have hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will start in about six weeks,” read the 51-year-old’s post. As CTO, he then wants to take care of technical areas such as software and products.

terminations and controversies

He had already announced a corresponding project in December 2022. Just before Christmas, the multi-billionaire declared: “I’ll step down as CEO as soon as I find someone stupid enough to do this job! After that, I’ll just run the software and server teams.” In February he joked for the first time that his dog is the new boss of Twitter.

After acquiring Twitter for $44 billion last year, he made headlines in connection with the service. In the Interview with James Clayton from the British BBC he explained in April that he had “shot himself in the foot” several times with tweets: “I think I shouldn’t tweet after 3 a.m. in the morning.” If you’re going to post something potentially controversial, you might want to save it as a draft first and see if you still want to tweet it the next day.

He also went into the numerous layoffs of the past few months, which have been repeatedly discussed in the media. Before the takeover, a little less than 8,000 people worked at Twitter, today there are still around 1,500 employees, he said at the time.
