X.com (formerly Twitter) continues to change, with a major change to the way links are displayed.

Who says X.com, says change. It has in fact become a very frequent habit on the social network bought by Elon Musk, a little over a year ago now. Even recently, we saw the Circles function scrapped, as did the option for reporting misleading information. And today, it is the previews of the links that are disappearing from the posts posted on the platform.

The link preview is over!

If you are a daily user of the social network X.com, this transformation cannot have escaped you. Since today, when a link is posted on the platform, the preview which indicated it in the post, below the displayed image, has simply disappeared.

All that remains is this same clickable image to reach the link in question, with the name of the website at the bottom left. The deployment of this new feature happened quite quickly, with users who were quickly able to observe it on iOS before seeing it made effective a few hours later on the desktop version.

A change requested by Elon Musk

If the change is abrupt, it is also not so unexpected. Last August, Elon Musk had in fact announced it, the objective being to reduce the size of posts in order to make the feed more aesthetic. The other objective of this “update” was also to reduce clickbait on the network.

Elon Musk also has a long-term desire to make X.com a kind of media in itself where users produce content directly, rather than being an intermediary. In this context, he implemented monetization, and made it possible to put much longer texts and videos online. And conversely, make life more difficult for websites using the platform; websites that have become, according to this vision, competitors, which therefore makes sense.
