Elon Musk unveils Grok AI, a “rebellious” alternative to ChatGPT

OpenAI is no stranger to Elon Musk. Indeed, the billionaire is one of the founders of the company that launched ChatGPT. But in 2018, a few years before the global success of the famous generative artificial intelligence, the billionaire decided to leave the ship due to a conflict with other leaders. A choice that he must no doubt bitterly regret today…

Unsurprisingly, the CEO of Tesla and Space X therefore wants to return to this booming market, and as quickly as possible. A first version of artificial intelligence developed by his company xAI has just begun testing.

Grok, an original AI from xAI

The start-up xAI was created in July 2023 by Elon Musk. Made up of engineers and scientists from various backgrounds (Microsoft, Google, OpenAI and Tesla), this new entity sets itself the main objective of “understand the true nature of the universe”. Just that.

At the end of last week, Elon Musk finally announced the availability of xAI’s first artificial intelligence, named Grok, to a first group of users. True to form, the whimsical billionaire did not play the modesty card: “In many ways it is the best [IA] which currently exists”.

However, this is not the only information revealed about this first solution developed by the start-up. Indeed, the official xAI account on Twitter/X made this clear… in a rather original way.

Grok is an AI inspired by The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, designed to answer almost anything and, even more difficult, to suggest what questions to ask!

The dark side of AI power

The start-up emphasizes that artificial intelligence will respond to users “with a little wit and a rebellious side”. She therefore advises not to use it if you hate humor. xAI also specifies that the AI will be able to answer questions “spicy”, until now not authorized by most artificial intelligence models, without saying too much about what this trend hides “spicy”…

Finally, we learn that Grok will differentiate itself from the competition thanks to “a unique and fundamental advantage”: real-time support for content available on Twitter/X. It now remains to be seen how the AI will manage the veracity of the information… a point regularly criticized by the social network purchased in October 2022 by Musk.

In beta “very early” after only two months of training, Grok “improves quickly over the weeks” thanks to the help of the first testers, assures xAI. No details are provided regarding a wider availability of this artificial intelligence straight out of Elon Musk’s brain.
