Qualifying for Roland-Garros 2023 continued on Wednesday. 11 tricolors were expected on the additional courts of the Porte d’Auteuil to try to win their ticket for the 3rd round, synonymous with a qualifying match for the main draw. Of the five French players involved, three managed to win their ticket for the final match of these qualifications. A satisfactory record for the Blues who will play their last match of this part of the tournament on Thursday or Friday.

A badly started day

The day had however started badly for the tricolors. Sharply beaten by the Spaniard Pablo Martinez (135th in the ATP ranking) with a score of 7-6 6-2, Dan Added leaves the Parisian tournament early. A fate also experienced by the young Frenchman Sacha Gueymard Wayenburg who was however able to worry the Argentinian Camilo Ugo Carabelli. Under the blue sky of the Porte d’Auteuil, the native of Aix-en-Provence managed to remove a set from his opponent before cracking in the decisive round (6-2 3-6 6-2).

But the shooting was quickly rectified. Both led a set to nothing, Laurent Lokoli and Lucas Pouille finally turned the tide. The first, opposed to the Japanese Yosuke Watanuki, won 4-6 6-4 6-3. As for the second, led 7-5 by the Taiwanese Chun Hsin Tseng, he transcended himself to finally win 5-7 6-3 6-0. Pouille will face Austria’s Radionov in an attempt to clinch their ticket to the main draw. Laurent Lokoli will face the Italian Flavio Cobolli. Geoffrey Blancaneaux ended this day of the Blues in a very nice way: the French beat the Italian Riccardo Bonadio 6-3 6-2.

The day had also started on the women’s side. The young player Margaux Rouvroy, surprise winner of the American Sofia Kenin, did not manage to achieve a second exploit in these Internationals of France. Despite a good resistance, the French lost in two sets (7-6 7-6) against the Belarusian Iryna Shymanovitch (211th). Another beaten tricolor, Nina Radovanovic who could not do anything against the Slovak Viktoria Hruncakova.

These two eliminations were however quickly forgotten with the victory of the young Alice Robbe against the Hungarian Reka-Luca Jani. The Frenchwoman thus reaches the 3rd qualifying round of these French Open and will try to win her ticket for the main draw on Friday against the Czech Brenda Fruhvirtova. Another great French victory, that of Elsa Jacquemot against the Briton Harriet Dart. Led one set zero, the hope tricolor overturned the match to finally win 1-6 6-1 6-2. Fiona Ferro also continues her journey after her victory over the Spanish Carolina Alves. The day unfortunately ended with the defeat of ChloƩ Paquet against the Spaniard Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov.
