Emergency doctor blinded – double laser attack on rescue helicopter

The crew of the rescue helicopter Christophorus 11 was attacked twice on Wednesday evening with a strong, targeted laser beam. The pilot was able to maneuver the helicopter safely over Klagenfurt, but the emergency doctor was struck by the bundled light in the eye. A dangerous incident!

On Wednesday around 5.15 p.m. the C 11 team was on its way to Ebenthal for an emergency. A 60-year-old man had to be reanimated. But a laser beam hit the helicopter over the city of Klagenfurt. The light from the Südring area shot into the air twice in a row, about 2,100 feet (640 meters) high. Fortunately, the rescue helicopter could still be steered smoothly. The light beam did not hit the pilot, but rather the emergency doctor in the eye. Base manager Michael Umschaden: “Such an attack is not only dangerous for the crew, but also for the patients we are transporting.” This act is by no means a minor offense. The perpetrator faces up to ten years imprisonment.
