Season 3 keeps the charm of the series
The first season of “Emily in Paris” fell through with the critics: the characters – especially the main character Emily – were described as unbelievable, selfish and flat. Above all, the depiction of France and its culture was more than bitter, not only for the French.
While season 2 “flirtiously ignored” these points of criticism, as “taz” wrote, the current season seems to have taken some of the advice to heart. In the new episodes, the entire universe does not revolve around Emily, the secondary characters are also given space for developments and their own plots. The criticism that someone like Emily would like to live in a country but doesn’t even try to learn the language is also taken up: In the third season we see Emily at a language course.
The first reviews are generally more benevolent: The series knows what it is, which is a fantasy story that doesn’t have much to do with realism. In the current times, not only the fans of “Emily in Paris” can use exactly that: A short trip to a dream Paris inhabited by people who wear the most incredible clothes and have problems that you can only think about can shake. From this point of view, the series is really a worthy successor to “Sex and the City”.
