Emmanuel Macron at Fort Brégançon: regulars oscillate between indifference and enthusiasm

Vacation time for Emmanuel Macron. The President of the Republic is at Fort Brégançon in the Var, the official resort of heads of state. This building, whose construction began in the 13th century, is part of the landscape for the inhabitants of Bormes-les-Mimosas, as well as for photographers and the curious who try to catch a glimpse of the presidential couple. If the scenario is the same every summer, the presence of the president always makes holidaymakers react.

“We hope he recovers well”

On the beach of Cabasson, it is the same cicadas. In the distance, the same fort overlooking the sea. Everything seems normal, except for one detail: the gendarmerie is patrolling the area. It was enough for Christine to put a flea in his ear. She rushed to the sand to get to the bottom of it. “We saw the flag, we thought it meant the presence of Emmanuel Macron, our French president. It’s good, we’re happy he’s there. We hope he’s calm and that he is recovering well. It does something, a president is not nothing, it is a beautiful family”, she rejoices at the microphone of Europe 1. Since then, she has not stopped taking a look at the presidential pontoon between two sunny siestas.

And it’s not the only one: Jean-Guy, too, is on the lookout. “I saw a cyclist who was walking the path in Fort Brégançon, so I thought maybe he was just doing his bike ride,” he says. Most do not necessarily expect to meet the head of state. Like Marcel who runs a snack near the water. For him, he is only a silhouette that is finally quite blurred in the distance and his presence does not change his daily life. “We are used to having the gendarmes who are there. But nothing is happening. He (the president) goes to restaurants in Le Lavandou, I know, but that’s it. It’s the president but he’s a guy like any other”, advances the trader.
