Emmanuel Macron denounces “cynicism” and “disorder” in the National Assembly

PARIS (Reuters) – Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday denounced the attitude of the extremes in the National Assembly, pointing to the “cynicism” and “disorder” of the left gathered in the Nupes two days after the rejection of a motion to censure of the government, to within 50 votes.

The deputies rejected on Monday motions of censure tabled by Nupes and by the National Rally on the budgetary texts, born of the choice of Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne to resort to article 49.3 of the Constitution to have them adopted without a vote.

One of them was voted by the left united in Nupes and by the National Rally, leading the presidential camp to depend on the votes of the Republicans.

“What makes me angry is the cynicism and the disorder,” said Emmanuel Macron on France 2 about this episode, which reveals the difficulties of the presidential camp in a National Assembly where he only has a relative majority.

“Above all, they proved what? That they were ready – socialists, ecologists, communists and LFI [La France insoumise] – to go hand in hand with the Rassemblement national when there is war in Europe, when there is a crisis, when so many families are in disarray and when we have to be sides of the French”, he denounced.

“They showed one thing: they are not on the side of merit, order, work, solution, progress. They are on the side of disorder and cynicism and I tell you: it does not will lead to nothing. Because these people will not be able to govern together tomorrow”, continued Emmanuel Macron. “We just saw that the king was naked because they helped each other in the election last spring.”

In the eyes of the Head of State, “there is neither today nor tomorrow in our country an alternative majority because it is based on inconsistency, the alliance of extremes.”

Emmanuel Macron, on the other hand, reached out to the centrist group Liberté Indépendants Outre-mer et Territoires (Liot) and to the Republicans, who did not vote for this motion of censure.

The president considered that the government and the presidential majority had “interest” in working with them to have future texts adopted on labor reform, pensions and immigration, in particular.
