Emmanuel Macron traveling to Algeria from August 25 to 27-Elyse

PARIS, August 20 (Reuters) – Emmanuel Macron will visit Algiers from Thursday August 25 to Saturday August 27 to revive diplomatic relations between France and Algeria, the Elyse announced on Saturday.

The French president, who responds to the invitation of his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune, made a single visit to Algeria, at the start of his first presidential term in December 2017.

“This trip (…) will contribute to deepening the bilateral relationship looking to the future for the benefit of the populations of the two countries, to strengthen Franco-Algerian cooperation in the face of regional issues and to continue the work of appeasement of memories”, says the Elyse in a press release.

The two heads of state spoke on the phone on Saturday, the French presidency said, adding that Emmanuel Macron offered his condolences to Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the dozens of victims of the forest fires that have ravaged Algeria in recent days.

“The Head of State informed his counterpart of the availability of France to provide Algeria with land and air resources to deal with it,” adds the Elyse.
