Emmanuel Macron-Xi Jinping meeting: the Chinese president “is not our friend”, assures Raphaël Glucksmann

Europe 1

While China is on a diplomatic visit to France, Raphaël Glucksmann, head of the PS-Place Publique list for the European elections, denounces this visit. Guest of Pierre de Vilno, he explains at the microphone of Europe 1 that there should be no nuance on the Franco-Chinese relationship.

“We are not giving a friendly tone to the relationship with China.” The arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping in France does not delight Raphaël Glucksmann, head of the PS-Place Publique list for the European elections. Invited in the Europe 1 studio, facing Pierre de Vilno, he affirmed that China was the main support of the Russian army against Ukraine and that it “deports the Uyghurs and represses the Taiwanese, the Hong Kongers and the Tibetans. “Xi Jinping is therefore not our friend,” he responds to the microphone of Europe 1.

“Xi Jinping is the man who destroys our productive capacities”

The MEP would like to point out that China’s power also has repercussions within French borders. “Xi Jinping is the man who is destroying our productive capacities as we speak. There is a strategy in China which is that of eradicating our production,” explains Raphaël Glucksmann. He takes in particular the example of the former Systovi factories, which produced photovoltaic panels, in Carquefou, near Nantes.

He claims that the factory went out of business, due to Beijing’s fault. “Chinese productions have divided their prices by four,” he points out. He retorts that these are sales at a loss for this product on the Chinese side to “cut French prices and cut our production”. “It is a political decision to eradicate photovoltaic production in Europe by basing Chinese production on the slavery of the Uighurs, on massive subsidies and on loss-making sales strategies,” he punctuates at the microphone of Europe 1.
