The state’s massive investment in young dropouts is already bearing fruit. In 2021, despite the still penalizing and persistent effects of the Covid crisis, the proportion of young people aged 15 to 29 without prospects has fallen significantly in France. A real satisfaction for the government when these fragile publics are generally the first to suffer the harmful effects of the economic situation. Thus, last year, 1.4 million young people were neither in employment, nor in studies, nor in training in France (excluding Mayotte). These famous Neet, for “neither in employment nor in education or training”, represented 12.8% of young people in this age group, according to the latest INSEE study published on Tuesday. In 2020, under the effect of the pandemic, this rate was 13.5% on average, with a peak of 15.6% in the second quarter, i.e. in full containment.
