This year, the screenwriters of En Famille have decided to dig into the past of Brigitte (Marie Vincent) in an unpublished bonus titled “A castle in heritage”. An exceptional episode which will allow fans of the program to learn more about Brigitte’s story. Meeting with Marie Vincent, the interpreter of this colorful character!
Allociné: For 12 years that you play Brigitte, how do you view the evolution of your character?
Marie-Vincent : She has evolved a lot. He is a very rich character. On this series, we all listened to each other and we worked more and more together. There is a collective enrichment and each character comes out stronger. I think the Brigitte of 12 years ago does not look like the one of today. Now she can finally show her flaws, her weaknesses and her wounds. It is less monolithic and more and more in bad faith. In addition, she accepts less and less to age.
Brigitte is a free and liberated woman who sends something strong back to women in her age group. How does it feel to wear such an iconic role?
I am very happy to bring hope. Many women are surprised that we can still seduce, express ourselves, dream and be free after the age of fifty. You can still be a woman in the sexual sense of the term too. That is to say, having desires and fantasies and not necessarily being the one who knits a scarf in front of the fireplace wondering if the fire will die like her soon (laughs).
Today, Brigitte finally has a dedicated premium. What can you say about what awaits us during this evening?
Brigitte finds herself a chatelaine following the death of her mother. She has never spoken of her noble origins because it is a terrible suffering for her. She is convinced that her mother never loved her and rejected her because she is a bastard. She is extremely hurt to return to this castle where she lived until she was 18 years old. Presumably she erased it from her memory.
Coming back to this place will therefore stir up a lot of things. It will be a lot of suffering and questions. At the same time, it will allow her to show off as she knows how to do so well. Suddenly, she is no longer Brigitte Le Kervelec but a countess. She will adopt a particular language and have fun with it. Despite everything, behind that, there is still the love of a mother that she did not have. And that’s heavy.
Did you like having the opportunity to dig into Brigitte’s past?
It’s wonderful to bring flaws, tears and secrets to it. If she’s the woman she is, it’s because she had to shut up and swallow a lot of snakes. And that’s probably what gives him this affable and outrageous side. She hides.
Do you think it will breathe other things into her?
I hope so. Anyway, I think so. She is naked now. That is to say that people know where it comes from. She will perhaps let her flaws and her pains appear a little more. Maybe she’ll be a little more understanding too, especially with her daughter, who’s a raw skin.
Brigitte is a rock’n’roll character. An image that is obviously very far from the idea that one can have of the nobility and the aristocratic world. Were you surprised by Brigitte’s origins?
No. I have always been attached to the fact that despite her freedom of expression she is never vulgar. Moreover, this is what allows him to put in his mouth incongruities and rudeness with elegance. And there, she gets caught up in the game. While maintaining her freedom, she adds this extremely snobbish side and she has a blast. I had a lot of fun doing this and I think it suits him well. Anyway, it’s possible.
Do you have any particular desires for Brigitte? For example, would you like to address a specific theme through your character?
I would like to broach the subject of old age. The truth. The one we neglect, forget and despise. As Brigitte doesn’t want to grow old, I’d like to dig into that and towards the loneliness of older people, the disrespect shown to them.
Do you have other projects in parallel with En Famille that you can tell us about?
I have projects in the theatre. I play in a play about Rosa Bonheur who was an animal painter and who was one of the first to assert her homosexuality. This play is beautifully written by Gérard Savoisien, who won the Molière award last year for having written a play on Marie des Poules. I can’t wait to play this role. I will be directed by my friend Virginie Lemoine.
