Announced by surprise by Emmanuel Macron during his first campaign debate for the presidential election in early March, the abolition of the audiovisual license fee will be effective this year. The 23 million taxpayers who pay it will therefore save 138 euros on their annual tax bill (88 euros for residents of the DOM-TOMs).

purchasing power

The information, which had leaked in the press, was confirmed this Wednesday, May 11, at the end of the last council of ministers of the Castex era, by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire. At Bercy, it is specified that the objective is to ratify this deletion via the amending finance bill (PLFR) which will be presented after the legislative elections in June. It will be visible on the income tax notice that the French will receive in September (the housing tax no longer exists).

Other measures of purchasing power, such as the energy check, the inflation check or even the maintenance of the tariff shield until the end of the year, should complete the text. Maintaining the standard of living of the French despite galloping inflation, at 4.8% in April over one year according to the latest figures from INSEE, is one of the major challenges of Emmanuel Macron’s new term of office.
