End of the hostage situation in Amsterdam, the armed man was subdued


The author of the hostage-taking in an Apple Store in Amsterdam was subdued by the Dutch police.

After several hours of intervention, the Dutch police managed to subdue the armed man who had entered an Apple Store in Amsterdam.

“He is lying in the street and a robot is examining him for explosives,” police said on Twitter.

Earlier in the evening, several people had managed to leave the shop in which the hostage-taking had started at the end of the afternoon. The last hostage held in the store was brought to safety.

A robbery that turned into a hostage situation

According to Dutch public television NOS, the facts began around 5:40 p.m. The police had received a report of an armed robbery in the Apple Store located in Leidseplein. The robbery quickly turned into a hostage situation.

“There is someone with a firearm in/near the store in question, the police are on site with numerous (specialist) units to bring the situation under control,” police said on Twitter.

Footage showing a man dressed in a green jacket holding a man to his left and threatening him with a gun inside the store has been circulating on social media.

According to witnesses, gunshots from the Apple Store were heard.
