Endometriosis “is not a woman’s problem. It’s a social problem, ”said Emmanuel Macron, Tuesday, January 11. Announcing the launch of a national strategy to fight this disease which affects one in 10 French people, the President of the Republic has promised “a better quality of life” for the sick.
In a video posted on social networks, the Head of State evokes the pain of these women “which can go as far as fainting”. “They are called Sandrine, Lola, Charlotte or Enora”, he said, referring to these two million French women “exhausted, worn out” by the disease.

The leading cause of infertility in France, endometriosis results in the presence of cells of uterine origin located outside the uterus and which react to hormones during menstrual cycles.
Sometimes asymptomatic, this pathology is however often synonymous with heavy periods and particularly violent pain. However, even today, medical knowledge about endrometriosis is incomplete, resulting in a diagnosis delay of seven years on average.
A system deployed throughout the territory
Emmanuel Macron assures us that this national strategy must allow us to “better understand this disease and its causes”, but also to “find therapeutic treatments”. This action plan stems from the work of LREM MEP Chrysoula Zacharopoulou. Gynecologist very committed to the subject of endometriosis for years, she was entrusted with this mission by the government last year and delivered her report on Tuesday.
The strategy presented by the Head of State takes up its main proposals, such as “the strengthening of the training of health professionals, the need to invest in research to advance knowledge of the disease” but also the urgency to “guarantee comprehensive, personalized and equitable care throughout the territory”. Emmanuel Macron specified that each region will be required to “precisely identify the territorial care sectors with at least one recourse and expertise center”.
To ensure the success of such a device, the President of the Republic has promised “specific national funding” “up to the challenges”. Beyond these measures, he underlines the importance of developing “an endometriosis reflex”, one which consists in promoting awareness “of all audiences”: “At school, at university, at home, at home. office […] in medical settings ”.
