(Boursier.com) — ENGIE New Ventures, the Research and Innovation investment fund ofENGIE dedicated to innovative start-ups accelerating the energy transition, has invested in Alpinov X. The Grenoble start-up, created in 2017, produces refrigeration equipment with high environmental value using water as a refrigerant.
Generating cold with water for applications such as cooling networks and data centers is a technical innovation that the French startup Alpinov X is about to cross. Its state-of-the-art technology, a turbocharger, is based on a fundamental principle which aims to develop a very low pressure thermodynamic cycle using water as a refrigerant. Current technologies use refrigerant gases which have a high global warming potential (GWP) in the event of a leak and which, in accordance with European regulations, will be banned by 2030.
Alpinov X technology also makes it possible to increase energy performance for cold production by nearly 30% compared to the best compressors on the market (reducing greenhouse gas emissions from electricity production by the same amount). ).
Alpinov X has already developed an operational 500 kWf prototype. In partnership with ENGIE, the start-up intends to develop and market a larger capacity machine within a few years.
