There are rumblings in the FDP. After an incendiary letter from 26 state and local politicians, critics of the traffic light coalition have collected enough applications to begin a member survey. Now it’s the party leadership’s turn.

The push for a nationwide survey of FDP members about further participation in the traffic light coalition with the SPD and the Greens has received the necessary support. The required number of 500 signed applications has been received, said one of the co-initiators, Kassel district chairman Matthias Nölke.

The initiative follows an open letter from 26 state and local politicians from the FDP, who demanded that the FDP should reconsider its coalition partners after the poor election results in Hesse and Bavaria.

What is required is that the FDP federal executive board conducts a member survey as soon as possible in accordance with the federal statutes about whether the FDP will remain in the traffic light coalition. The question text should therefore read: “Should the FDP end the coalition with the SPD and the Greens as part of the federal government?” The answer options are “yes” and “no”.
