Equinor: leaves the Barents Blue project

(CercleFinance.com) – The operator Horisont Energi has announced the arrival of Fertiberia as a new partner in the Barents Blue project. Consequently, previous partners Equinor and Vår Energi are leaving the project, as the cooperation agreement expired on January 31.

The concept of Barents Blue consists of making ammonia from the natural gas of the Barents Sea, capturing the CO2 and storing it under the seabed.
This storage project, called CO2 Polaris, brought together the same partners as the Barents Blue project. Consequently, Equinor has also concluded to no longer participate in the Polaris CO2 storage project.

“We are delighted to see that Horisont Energi will continue to mature the Barents Blue project with a new partner and build on the progress and experiences of our partnership,” said Grete Tveit, senior vice president of solutions at low-carbon, at Equinor.
