  • Stephen King’s “IT” becomes a series with “Welcome to Derry”.
  • The HBO Max production tells the backstory of Pennywise.
  • He’s been targeting the kids of Derry, Maine for hundreds of years.

After a long preliminary banter, it’s now official: HBO Max has ordered the sequel series “Welcome to Derry”, which tells the story of the “It” horror clown Pennywise. The series title is still a working title, but it is certain that Andy Muschietti will direct some episodes.

Pussyetti is the director of the two “ES” films from 2017 and 2019. His sister Barbara produced them with him.

“As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s It until the thick paperback fell to pieces,” the pussyetti siblings said in a statement. “It’s an epic story that goes well beyond what we’ve explored in our It films. We can’t wait to share the depths of Steve’s novel, with all of its heart, humor, humanity and horror .” (via Entertainment Weekly)

Derry, Maine is where the shapeshifting demon clown Pennywise has been stalking and killing children for hundreds of years. In “IT: Chapter 2” we already got a taste of the origin story of Pennywise. This will now be deepened in the series.
